Everything you should know before paving with Sandstone

Sandstone has been around for centuries and is known for its incredible beauty. The subtle hued stones with grainy texture offer a lively appearance to spaces like the backyard, patio, or garden. Here is why you should opt for Sandstone Paving

Durable- Though Sandstone is not hard as Granite, it can last for decades. They are extremely durable and can withstand heavy loads, frost, and heat with ease. No wonder why it has been used in historic buildings.

Anti-slip- The grainy texture and cleft surface of Sandstone naturally make them anti-slip. The honed surfaces are treated to have a good footing. It’s the polished surface that gets slippery when wet.

Soft- Sandstone surface is soft that feels comfortable to walk on barefoot. They are also easy to cut and work with. This allows effortless DIYs and room to experiment.

Sustainable- Sandstone is biodegradable (though it takes time) unlike plastic or vinyl. The broken or damaged stones can be easily replaced.

Along with the benefits, you should also know about the cons of Sandstone to make wise decisions:

More porous than Granite- All natural stones are porous. So is Sandstone. It absorbs water causing warping or bacterial infestation. Therefore, at all points in time, Sandstone Pavers must be sealed, preferably annually.

Prone to scratching- The soft stone gets scratched and dented easily. Heavy objects dropping or sharp things in close contact can cause dents or damage faster than you would know.

Stains- With Sandstone paving you must be very careful about stains and clean spills immediately, especially with dark-coloured liquids. Not cleaning stains quickly might cause permanent stains.

Paving with Sandstone has been practiced for a long time and will continue in the future. Let the cons not scare you while considering it for your project.
